The minimal grey colour and matte tone of the plates comes from the fine coating of a glossy glaze. The pottery is made from clay with high density which contributes to its good resistance to heat, stain and stress. The high quality and flexibility of the porcelain inherited the absolute aesthetics of the conventional Arita ware.

Under the influence of the sophisticated experience and skills of traditional Japanese Arita craftsmen, 1616 / Arita Japan was initiated by the designer and creative director Teruhiro Yanagihara in 2012. All porcelain from 1616 / Arita Japan is made with crushed stone from the town of Arita, where ceramic manufacture was established 400 years ago.
